The Managing Director of Springfields Fuels Limited came to Lancashire Business School to speak to over 30 MBA students about the company’s success.
Mike Tynan gave a masterclass to the full and part-time MBA students, giving them an insight into how he and his team have turned Springfields Fuels into world leaders in the supply of nuclear fuel and fuel products.
An accountant by profession, Mike began his career with British Nuclear Fuels at Sellafield in the late 1970s and since then has had many domestic and international assignments within the nuclear industry, including finance, major service provision, plant operations, project management and manufacturing.
Key business executives
Professor Graham Kelly, Head of Postgraduate Programmes and Research in Lancashire Business School, said: “Bringing the experiences of key business executives into our MBA programme is an important element of our approach to management development. Mike Tynan’s case study of his company’s success in achieving corporate renaissance proved to be a fantastic lesson for all of our students.”
UCLan’s Pro Vice Chancellor for the Nuclear Industries, Dr Graham Baldwin, added: “"The masterclass was a great success and provided a fascinating insight into change management in a local company of international significance. To have a presenter of the calibre of Mike Tynan was a real bonus and also underpinned UCLan’s emerging strategy for nuclear education."
After the masterclass Mike invited the UCLan MBA students to visit the Springfield site. Mike’s MBA lecture was the second in recent months from an industry professional after Chamber of Commerce International Trade Manager, Neal Barfoot, gave a guest lecture to full-time MBA students in March.
