One of the recent management technique is adopting knowledge management system ,but what does this mean?Knowledge Management Systems are information systems designed to facilitate codifying, collecting, integrating, and disseminating organizational knowledge.KM has many tools such as Document Management/Content management Systems,Collaborative Tools,Corporate portals,Intranets and extranets,Expertise databases and Corporate yellow pages,Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems,E-learning.
Now the question is: Can social networks such as Orkut, facebook and others, work as a KM tool? In fact the popularity of these types of networks and spending unreasonable amount of time during working time on facebook is concerned by bosses. Some of managers think using this technology for non-work related activity might cause some problems in terms of staff efficiency, however, some other people think using these types of platforms could help companies to solve problems, doing some business, to put it simple, use this technology as a KM tool.
In my opinion using the facebook or other social networks at work is fine, however, companies should change their culture and try to change their employees' behaviour, specifically the younger employees who have grown up with these technologies.I have found an article on BBC website which is "Bosses 'should embrace Facebook".If you like to know what people think about the social networks ,click here
